Say What You Need To Say
After 2:40 hours listening to other interesting but not so interesting artists, the Corrs finally showed up at the 46664 Nelson Mandela AIDS charity concert! Andrea wore a red blouse with a skirt looking like a bar code, Caroline a nifty black suit and Sharon looked a bit like she just arrived from a funeral. They never bothered to really show Jim, so all I can say is he was there, too
.

They performed a heavy violin-y version of “Breathless” at first, then “Toss the feathers” together with Robert Taylor (from Queen) at the drums. These Irish folk tunes never fail to heat things up, and they also transferred very well to South Africa. Andrea seemed a little bit too hyped up and the tin whistle sounded sometimes off, but I’ll forgive her that- she was in awe of her surroundings. The collaboration with Ladysmith Black Mambazo was very interesting, with all four Corrs at the mics and performing “Lelilungelo elakho”. It was a traditional African song sounding a lot like a canon. Let’s just say Andrea could sing the phone book of Ulan-Bator to me and I’d still be fascinated by her voice…:)
Andrea and Brian May (from Queen, too) performed something very very special, a song Freddy Mercury had sung at LiveAid in 1985 (?): “Is this the world we created?”. Short but sooo impressive- I got chills running down my spine. And when Brian May thanked “wonderful” Andrea Corr, she actually grinned like some Cheshire Cat
, how cute is that
?
