Movie of the week: Starsky & Hutch. Two words: uninspired & predictable. Ben Stiller is so not funny, he’s terribly overacting and thus fails to convey any real care for the character. Owen Wilson is a little better, maybe also because the character of Hutch suits him more, but on the whole the actors were all frustratingly bad. Juliette Lewis spends her screen time either oiling Vince Vaughn’s back or running around helplessly à la damsel in distress *yeuch*, Carmen Electra (or should I say her boobs :P ?) is just there, and Snoop Dogg hasn’t deserved any of his costumes. Speaking of which, they were about the only thing that looked 70s to me, the rest could have been straight out of today. Thereby: 2 out of 6 Meeps – disappointing. In fact, I think I have to invent a new category for movies like these: SYMWTT – “Save your money, watch the trailer”. It’s definitely not worth watching all those filler scenes when you already know the good lines from the trailer. That’s been the case with “The Princess diaries”, “Legally blonde 2″, “Scary Movie 3″, “Along came Polly”, “Starsky & Hutch”, and I fear “Scooby Doo 2″, though speaking of “good lines” here may be a bit overly optimistic… I still have that free ticket, so I’m thinking “Gothika” is a good choice for Friday. Enough of the mindless comedies for a while!
