Being in an adventuresome spirit, I decided to try myself on apple strudel this weekend, and it even worked! A bit too well though because now I’m sitting on three strudels and there is only so much pastries one person can eat. Anyone wanna come by for hot apple strudel with vanilla sauce ;) ?

And just in case you feel adventurous, too ;) : the recipe.

You need:

  • 1/2 package of ready made strudel dough
  • 500g apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 70g raisins
  • 40g sugar, mixed with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 70g melted butter

The steps:

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C.
  2. In a bowl, combine apples and raisins.
  3. Put the strudel dough on a floured baking sheet and spread it generously with melted butter.
  4. Spread the sugar-cinnamon mixture, then add the fruit mixture. Leave a gap on the top and bottom plus on the left and right end of the dough.
  5. Wrap the top and bottom of the dough so the fruit mixture won’t fall out.
  6. Roll the dough up to form a log shape.
  7. Brush with melted butter again.
  8. Bake in preheated oven 30 minutes. Brush with milk during that time if desired.
  9. Let the strudel cool 10 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve with vanilla sauce.
