Say What You Need To Say
I watched “Blonde” with Poppy Montgomery as Marilyn Monroe. Screencap time
!
It’s an interesting concept to have the characters talk directly to the camera, but takes a lot of getting used to. “Blonde” reminded me a lot of “Gia” minus the cheesy sax music
. The actors were decent through the bench, however it has to be noted that Poppy Montgomery was nothing short of brilliant. She absolutely pinned MM down to the T, her insecurity, her longing for recognition & love, her general feeling of being lost – it was all there. Add to that the striking resemblance, and you have an award-worthy performance.
Story-wise: Who the hell are Cass Chaplin & Bucky supposed to be?! I’ve never heard of Cass and you might say I know what I’m talking about
. I suppose that’s the poetic license, which makes it a tiny bit difficult to say what is fact and what is fiction…
As a throwaway: Count on me to find the movie in which Kirstie Alley kisses a woman – girl crush, anyone
?
The movie presented nothing new in terms of who MM really was – at least it didn’t come as a surprise to me she was addicted to amphetamines, wasn’t happy at all and had some very serious issues with her mother and her lovers. But hey, that is just me, and I devoured every book on her when I was 14 years old (including the very recommendable biography by Donald Spoto)
.
