Say What You Need To Say
Reports have appeared in Irish newspaperstabloids announcing that Andrea Corr of the Corrs is going on a tour to promote her solo album called “Present”, which is tentatively scheduled for release sometime early 2007. And I don’t care
.
I can’t really explain it, I’m not even understanding myself; after all, I have been a loyal fan of the Corrs for years and still am. But I’m having bigger trouble than I thought imaginening Andrea on a stage alone without her brother and sisters, and also, I have not clue whatsoever as to what her solo album will sound like.
There are reports she is going in a completely different direction than the Corrs’ previous music because otherwise, people won’t notice that she’s alone now – sounds reasonable, doesn’t it? While I’m fairly certain we won’t see the birth of Hard Rock Andrea or the new Missy Elliott
, I’m rather clueless as to what really expect.
I’m also not too hot about the purported “new look”, if the 60s / James Bond theme was any indication. But well, it’s not like I have a say in it anyway
.
One thing is for sure, though: Andrea has more than 15 years of experience as a seasoned musician under her belt, and if the rumours are anything to go by, she has found quite capable supporters for her album.
The big question is how the record company will promote Andrea: the new Katie Melua? Or the new Sarah McLachlan? Something completely different? Only time will tell.
After all, the tour is nothing but a rumour at the moment, and once I’ve listened to “Present”, I will know whether I will rush to a venue over 300km away. Or not.
Call me nostalgic, but the Corrs on stage are like family to me: I know Andrea will mess up sometime, Sharon will mime to the lyrics and slap her thigh, Caroline will be working hard behind the drums and throw in the occasional piano solo, and Jim plays his guitar and orders everyone to raise their hands during “So young”.
Andrea will have to offer a really excellent album to make up for that, not to say an instant classic with mass appeal. Let’s have a little faith, shall we?
