Music
Kelly Clarkson has a new album out, and while I wasn’t particularly thrilled by neither her last effort, “My December”, nor by the first single “My Life Would Suck Without You”, she has managed to win me back over with “All I Ever Wanted” (not quite with the album cover, though – my eyes, my eyes!).
The album breakdown:
- My Life Would Suck Without You: well, it grew on me but I still think it’s a cheap rip-off of “Since U Been Gone” MM
- I Do Not Hookup: in my opinion the better single – up-beat and not so hectic as “My Life Would Suck Without You” MMMM
- Cry: no album without a ballad, which in this case is quite epic MMMM
- Don’t Let Me Stop You: that’s how I like my Kelly Clarkson – honest lyrics, killer hook and a chorus that could blast a hole in any wall MMMMM
- All I Ever Wanted: very driven chorus, classic Kelly Clarkson MMMMM
- Already Gone: I had to think of Sinead O’Connor upon hearing this for the first time – a soft song, wistful yet beautiful MMMM
- If I Can’t Have You: whoa- Kelly Clarkson has had the electro treatment, and it sounds fantastic! MMMMMM
- Save You: very nice harmonies, the chorus is a bit of a letdown though MMMM
- Whyyawannabringmedown: too much of everything – too loud, too bitchy, too little melody M
- Long Shot: okay, up-tempo song but nothing special MM
- Impossible: again, this reminds me of another song (Delta Goodrem’s “Bare Hands”) which means it differs a bit from the usual fare – darker but still good MMM
- Ready: my personal favourite of the album, catchy, breezy, classic sing-along stuff MMMMMM
- I Want You: sounds a lot like Gabriella Cilmi, which is not necessarily a bad thing MMMM
- If No One Will Listen: one of the few softer songs on the album, this is a bit too elegiac for my taste MM
- Tip Of My Tongue: somehow this reminds me of Mary J Blige, it’s very R&B-ish MMMM
- The Day We Fell Apart: a good way to let the album end because this is engaging and grabs the attention right away. MMMMM
All in all, a good return to form for Kelly Clarkson: 5 out of 6 Meeps – excellent!
