For no particular reason (Wikipedia tells me Australia Day was on January 26th, already): three songs by Australian artists - Delta Goodrem, Gabriella Cilmi and good old Kylie Minogue (and I use “old” in the best possible way - that woman has been around for 20 years!)
If you have cats, you know what this man is drawing about. If you don’t, trust him - having them is exactly as horribly funny as he shows it!
Paul Buchman: What’s the big deal with Valentine’s Day? It’s a made-up holiday. Nobody even knows who this St. Valentine guy was.
Jamie Buchman: He was a Roman priest who defended the Christians and was beheaded by Claudius II on February 14, 269 A.D.
(from ‘Mad About You’)
On this note, happy Valentine’s Day to you, especially if you’re single ;)!
Happy holidays and a happy new year to everyone!
If you want to purchase bus or train tickets on a Ryanair flight to London Stansted, make sure you are NOT seated in the last couple of rows: it might happen you are not sold these tickets because time runs out, and no amount of pleading will get you anywhere - all you hear is “Sorry madam, we are sold out!”, which is even more vexing because you know it is not true !
Hey folks, I’ve actually been missing having a blog, so I decided I will start posting my raves, rants and reviews again - I’m sure you’ve all been waiting for it ;)!
Thanks to 12chen for sending me this and this *huggles*!
I also got this from my parents, plus this handy thing and this nice thing.
Later on, some friends of mine will drop by into my humble abode, and we’ll see if I have enough tea cups for all of them ;).
Thanks everyone for their lovely birthday calls and cards, you rock :)!
Believe it or not, this past weekend I’ve been to an Ikea store for the first time in my life. My first impression was that of lots of silly names, lots of hectic people and lots of hypocrisy. At least I doubt that my “Made in China” dishwashing cupboard is part of the local companies approach they are boasting about :P. Anyway, there has to be something about these stores that makes them an universal success, but I haven’t quite found it. Only lots of furniture that looks a lot more stable when you don’t touch it :P. And aisles so high and mazy I can imagine there are lots of good stories to tell about the endeavour of finding anything at all in there…
While trying out a new, rather curly hairstyle for my sister’s wedding (which by the way was much less “My Big Sister’s Fat Non-Greek Wedding” and more “Nothing Important Happened Today”), I ended up with something very ABBA-esque - read: 70s blow-dryer wavy. I mentioned this to both my Mum and Dad, and all I earned were blank stares: my parents don’t know ABBA!
This story requires a bit of background information: there’s a statue in the harbor which depicts a prostitute holding both the pope and the emperor in her hands, signifying who was the greatest power during the church council here in the 15th century :P. The statue called “Imperia” is 12m high and
very hard to overlook. However the sign which states what it depicts is 1) very small in comparison and 2) in German only.
