Say What You Need To Say
I’ve just discovered amazon.co.jp, and as I’m completely clueless about Japanese, I had to use the babelfish to navigate on the site. You know what’s coming next
:
*sings Summer sunshine from the top of her lungs: The heeeeat…*
Ahem. Sorry for the outburst, but I’m so happy right now – I had to listen to rather boring three hours of SWR3 but finally, finally, SS was on
. *Lalala*, I want it to be June!
If Phoebe-bashing were an Olympic discipline, Demian would win gold everytime. I can’t help rofl-ing when I read his latest review for “Hyde School runion”, which, even by Charmed season 6 standards, is just pointless. It must be the umpteenth episode in which Phoebe gets possessed, and Raige has no story whatsoever except chasing after Phreebie. At least Holly Marie Combs provides some good lines and I can’t say I mourn the absence of the Dolt. All in all however, rather disappointing…
The Corrs premiere their new single “Summer sunshine” at the Meteor awards:

Andrea does the Minbari look

One word: lips
. If “Sky Captain and the world of tomorrow” is only half as cheesy as the title suggests, it’s still going to be pretty silly. Angelina looks kind of Nazi in her costume but I love the eye patch
!
Guess what’s on right now – oh yes, “Heartbreakers”
.
Saw “My big fat greek wedding” today, it was hilarious. And it made me crave Greek food really bad
. All in all 5 Meeps out of 6, so maybe I’ll write a review for it later.
Thankfully not Scooter but Max from SSDSGPS is going to Istanbul to represent Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you can check out the official site. This event sends Europe in a frenzy every year, and as cheesy as it may be, it is actually one of the few occasions where the whole of Europe kind of “comes together”. In short, it’s a competition where contestants from all over Europe have the chance to present their songs, and then all countries vote which is their favorite. The allocating of the points is usually taking longer than the performances themselves and the reason why almost every European is glued to the TV
.
It’s especially interesting to see what kind of alliances and animosities still exist between the countries: Austria and Germany rarely give each other high marks, whereas Poland and other former Eastern block states tend to shower Russia with points no matter how bad the song really was. Scandinavia sticks together, as do the states on the Balkan, and France and the UK are happily ignoring each other. It appears the people have a implacable memory…
Just downloaded the Corrs new single, “Summer sunshine” (I would have bought it but it’s not even sold yet – you guess who preorders it the second it’s available
), and it rocks! And I do mean that literally, it’s pretty guitar heavy but, and that’s the more important part, there’s actually violin and tin whistle in there
! So I’ve been humming it all day and I have no intention to stop any time soon – I can’t help loving the Corrs!
(I do realize my use of exclamation marks has reached inflationary proportions but I’m quite euphoric right now
)
I endured all 4 hours of the Oscars, though I wasn’t curious enough to do so live (which would have meant getting up at 2AM!) and good thing that because that way, I could fast forward through all eleven Oscars for LotR3. Sure it’s not a bad movie, but making movies isn’t about delegating some 20,000 ppl which seems to me is why Peter Jackson got the Academy Award for in the first place. Thankfully there are only three parts of LotR, I strongly hope there will be more diversity next year. Funny bits were Billy Chrystal as always and Jack Black’s & Will Ferrell’s “You are boring” lyrics, I almost rofled when I heard them. Charlize Theron being moved to tears didn’t make sense to me until a day later when I read in a newspaper what she had meant when she thanked her mother for everything she has done – including, apparently, shooting Charlize’s father in self-defense because he had tried to shoot his daughter. Mamma mia
!
Viva and MTV are hardly very intellectual, and I have difficulties to believe these two channels are shaping the young German generation right now… I’ve already got fave songs enough, and embarrasing ones, too: I find myself humming “Toxic” by Britney Spears *cough*. I can only explain this strange preference with I like it even though it’s Brit and not because ;p. Other “Ohrwurms” include The Crash with “Star”, Blink 182 with “I miss you” (and no, I don’t get the video either) and No Doubt with “Bathwater”. However, I could really without all these dating shows and jackass clones because they are just. not. funny. Who said anyone’s interested in how embarrassing people behave when they are on a date?
Been watching the second episode of “Tru Calling”: they need a better singer for the title song, but thankfully they’ve pulled the plug on those obnoxious intercuts (mostly). Eliza Dushku shouldn’t frown this often, still most of the time she pulls it off rather convincingly, and the Morgue boss is way cool
. Currently I’m downloading more of Tru; however I fear as I’ll be gone on Wednesday, I won’t get to see as much as I’d like until then. Talking about rates of 0,5kb/s again… the latest Charmed ep is also incredibly slow, I’ve been downloading it like half a week by now!
I’m now officially addicted to season 3 of “24″: I’ve been watching episodes 1-4 and am hooked already again. Some things never change, like the CTU looking suspiciously like before the disastrous bombing in season 2 and Jack doing everything by himself, plus the indispensable mole at CTU. Some things do change, however: Spawn is now sporting a very unbecoming hairdo, works with her Daddy and is dating Agent Charlie Brown (compared to season 2, certainly an improvement- no more stoopid No!Daddy! No! story… remember the cougar
?), Bitchelle shows much more cleavage all season day, Soul Patch has gotten quite fat and we have a new Darlene, except she is called Chloe this season. Suppose we need the computer geeks on this show, with all the Whatever technology lurking in every corner… but wait, Darlene was dead by the end of the season, and Jamie died, too. My money is on Adam to die, killed by the mole and Chloe finds out. Right now, however, I’m surprised at how much better the Bitchelle/Soul patch marriage works once they are not on screen together…
So far, it all sounds pretty good to me, and I’m almost showing the same withdrawal symptoms like Jack – j/k of course, but honestly, once you’ve started, you can’t stop again! (P.S. You can tell I’ve been to Television without pity again
)
I bought Alicia Keys’ new album, “The diary of AK”, and I think I like it even more than her debut. The first three songs and an instrumental interlude don’t sound good but the other 11 songs are just great! I especially like “Wake up”, “So simple”, “If I were your woman”, “You don’t know my name” and “Diary”. Sadly, as this shitload of a crappy computer still refuses to work at all, I’ll probably never know what she is singing about. However, her voice is very pleasant to listen to and I’m beginning to ask myself why I ever sold “Songs in a minor”
?
Movie of the week is “The Recruit”:
actually I only saw this movie because there weren’t any other good ones playing this week… and so my motivation wasn’t very high. Plus it starrs Al Pacino who is certainly a good actor but still I can’t help disliking him. Pacino’s role is that of veteran CIA recruiter Burke who hires Clayton (Colin Farrell) for the Agency. He is using Clayton’s father as a bait to lure him into “The Farm”, the Agency’s training facility, and Clayton soon has to find out everything is a test – including his romance with fellow trainee Layla (Bridget Moynahan). Or is it? Is he working for the CIA or does Layla tell the truth when she says he has changed allegiance…?
“Kinda good, kinda bad” describes the movie best. Towards the end, the plot speeds up a bit which is desperately needed after various slow parts in the middle, and weren’t it an important plot device, I could have lived without Burke’s grand speech in the end.
Colin Farrell does his best and can convey Clayton’s confusion and pain quite convincingly, though he should refrain from channeling Bullseye too much
. Bridget Moynahan is too bland to really evoke interest and thereby becomes interchangeable, Al Pacino delivers good work but tends to overact a bit, too, sometimes.
I enjoyed the music which sounded a lot like “The Italian Job”, and cinematography was good average. The script had some serious problems getting into the story and showed us far too many pointless car conversations instead of action – with the way the movie was advertised, this was a mistake. Most of the twists were so obvious either me or my friend predicted them correctly 99% of the time, so minus points for the plot’s orginality. On the whole, not bad but could have been better – 3 out of 6 Meeps.
There are some reviews which have to be written, namely LotR:Trotk, X:WP-FIN, BH and LIT. Did I mention I like acronyms
? Must be a fan-thingie… anyway, LotR… is “Lord of the Rings: The return of the King” (which shall hereafter only be referred to as Lotr3 – what’s with movies whose acronyms are almost as long as the title?), X:WP… “Xena: Warrior Princess – Friend in need”, BH “Bollywood Hollywood” and LIT “Lost in translation”. CONTAINS SPOILERS, be warned!
