Okay, time for another obsession of mine- which is right now getting really hard to keep because of rates @ 0.08 kb/s… Charmed!
First the good news: Holly Marie Combs is pregnant, how great is that :D ! She’ll be soccer mum, I’m sure… she is the reason I endured this “Power of three blondes” c*** last time, she even made me laugh with that “Wow, is that HORRIBLE!” line in an episode so full of bad jokes and ugly -dare I say- “clothes”… and now she’s gonna be a mum, yay!
The bad news: the WB keeps changing the episode titles because the original ones are apparently not promotable enough. I for one think “Sword and the City” sounds better than “Charmed in Camelot”, how bleh is that :/? Anyway, the WB has changed six titles in season 5, but in the current 6th season there are already 6 changes and they’ve just shown the 8th episode this Sunday! And always into those crappy titles with God knows what cheap, eyecatching words in it like “dirty”, “naughty” or “vixens” ::|. Does anybody on this planet need those?!

I’ve just spent the better part of this Sunday with transcribing an episode of German daily soap “Verbotene Liebe” (= “Forbidden love”). One episode is only 22 minutes long, but it took me 1 1/2 hours (!) to type it, it’s unbelievable. However, I really shouldn’t complain because I volunteered as part of a PBP on a message board, and actually it was loads of fun writing down those terribly acted lines . We’ve only started to watch this soap again because they have a major lesbian story line right now which is so clichéed it makes me cringe most of the time, but what don’t you put up with only to see anything on TV !

I’ve finally read Harry Potter vol.1 to 4! This might not be such big news considering the first book was released like 5 years ago or so, but for me it is definitely. I’m almost sorry I’ve seen the movies before I read the books because I always had Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in my mind as the faces of Harry, Ron and Hermione. That didn’t stop me, however, from enjoying the books very much, and I have to admit I was so smitten with “The Goblet of Fire” I read it in one day (again) despite its 760+ pages. I should watch the movies again to see what subplots they left out, but I know I don’t have the time for that, hmpf. Currently I’m trying to get my hands on the fifth volume, and I’m also trying hard to remember who dies in it… I know I knew it but apparently I’ve forgotten again. Alzheimer, much?!

Too fluffy

30 Oct 2003 Category Movies

I went to see “Intolerable cruelty” on Tuesday. Which is a nice movie, pretty fluffy and sometimes also pretty silly (overacting much, Mr. Clooney?), Catherine Zeta-Jones looks really good though both T. and me concluded she really shouldn’t wear yellow (fashion-wise a big no-no, was she pregnant when they shot the movie?), and the story is most of the time funny. What bothered me a bit however, was the lack of action- almost next to nothing happens. So while it was enjoyable, it doesn’t rank very high on my fav list. 3 out of 6 Meeps – average

100% QT-free

Tomorrow is “Intolerable Cruelty”, and hopefully this will make up for all horrible Quentin Tarantino movies lately (actually it was just one, but the thought counts- I’ll be a QT-free zone in the future if possible).

I saw “Kill Bill, Vol. 1″ and I was really not pleased- so much blood and dismembered body parts, and still it’s rated “R” in the US rather than “NC-17″. “The Matrix: Reloaded” is also rated “R”, but there is much more violence in “Kill Bill” than in the other movie- it seems inconsistent to label both movies with the same rating when there is a difference of at least 400 gallons of blood between them, urgh. Here in Germany, “Kill Bill” has received the highest rating possible, a FSK18 (means you are only allowed to see it if you are 18 or older), and I have to say this is very much justified. Half of the movie I was sitting there with my eyes closed, but the sound was bad enough. It is just not my idea of entertainment to see some 60+ ppl being slaughtered, decapitated, bitten to death, pierced and/or mutilated by swords and what not, and also not to see blood squirting like some fountain and in the process drenching everyone in proximity. I’m not saying there weren’t good scenes in it, too, but the majority of the movie is made up of blood, gore and violence. The only scene really funny was Daryl Hannah emerging from a room in her nurse outfit complete with a red cross patch :) .

“Identity” yesterday was a really cool movie, scary, full of twists and with one of those surprise endings you can’t anticipate- hence the name ;) . Anyway, I’m thinking about writing a review for Planet Meep, but then I’d also have to put one up for “The Others” I suppose… 5 out of 6 Meeps – excellent

Rather pointless

4 Oct 2003 Category Books

I’ve just read Ellen DeGenere’s book “My point… and I do have one”, and most of the time I simply thought . As the title suggests, she has a point… somewhere buried in her rants about nuns, planes and her not being a doctor. While some of her lists like “Crazy superstitions that really work!” are mildly funny, I really don’t see the point in wading all through the story of the funniest person in America- that’s pretty . As not to smash Ellen into the ground completely, I’m sure most of the book would be really funny if she were to perform it infront of you… but merely reading her talking in brackets and losing the plot all the time is rather pointless… oh, and what did she only think about the image on the cover :dizzy:?!

Madonna Goes S&M for Britney

Madonna and Britney Spears in

Madonna has agreed to star as a kinky leather-clad dominatrix in Britney Spears new music video. The pop queen will also lend Britney her husband, Guy Ritchie, who will direct the promo for her new single “Me Against The Music,” on which Madonna collaborated. In the video, the Material Girl will play a scary nightclub owner, with a string of luscious ladies on leashes, who lures innocent scantily-clad Britney into a private room filled with other beauties. The saucy video will echo Madonna’s controversial MTV Video Music Awards performance, where she passionately kissed both Britney and Christina Aguilera. Madonna and Snatch helmer Guy last worked together on the flop film Swept Away.

Clean TV

Did the laundry, finally, watched “Popular” which was quite okay except for the Nicole-is-adopted-storyline. Also watched “Ally McBeal”, which is now really disappointing in its fifth season. I don’t care about the lawyer-turned-shrink guy, not about Jenny or Glenn, not even about Greda, all I want is my Ally, John, Nelle and Ling! No wonder they were cancelled after that failure of a season… this Jenny is just pesky!

Saw “Pirates of the Caribbean” yesterday- such a cool movie! It’s funny, it’s scary, it looks exceptionally good, and the characters are sympathetic, too. Especially Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow – sorry, Captain ;) . No wonder so many lesbians were swooning over him :D . Keira Knightley doesn’t hurt either, though now I can understand why some reviewers complained about her Barbie lips. Orlando Bloom is okay I guess but I don’t really like him. This blockbuster has it all: the fun, the mystery, the love and the pretty people. 6 out of 6 Meeps – a must-see!

Yummy!

Tomorrow, I’ll finally see “Pirates of the Caribbean” together with T. and T. again, and after all the good reviews I’ve read, I really hope this will be the movie that ends the disappointing line-up lately. “Le salaire de la peur” was blah (actually, it was downright boring but I guess that mostly stems from the movie being over 50 years old – they made movies differently back then), and “Es geschah am hellichten Tag” scary as I remembered it. Oh, and I stumbled over another Romy Schneider movie called “Katia” from 1960 where she marries Curd Jürgens who could easily be her father  . But at age 22, she really looked stunning and I can’t help it, her voice is absolutely fascinating- I’ll recognize it anywhere, with that hint of Austrian dialect, the intonation is just unmistakable. And the IMDb doesn’t even have an image of her :complain:! So have some instead:

Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider 2

Just came back from watching “Tomb Raider 2: The Cradle of Life”, and I’m really disappointed. Such a lame movie, full of plot holes, obvious CGI backgrounds, meaningless stunts, dull dialogue, the thinnest excuse possible for a “story”, non-existent chemistry between the leads and no humor whatsoever. As Angelina Jolie is cute no matter what and some shots actually look good- oh, and Till Schweiger gets eaten  – 2 out of 6 Meeps: disappointing.

Collection update

Finally, my 6th “Would you be happier” single arrived after I have bought it back in August :complain:! At least it’s in mint condition and pretty cool, with a magnetic seal and worldwide album sales in the sleeve. So now I think I can stop buying “Would you be happier” singles ;) . And I also bought “Talk on Corners” 1st ed., which is my 4th “Talk on Corners” album (not counting all the special editions). All in all that makes my Corrs CD collection grow to about 67 :D !

MTV VMA Hype

Britney Spears, Madonna and Christina Aguilera at the MTV VMAs 2003

Madonna and Britney Spears have created quite an uproar @ the MTV VMAs this year when they shared an open-mouth tongue-involving kiss on stage while Christina Aguilera was “leering on” as sources say.

Well, she didn’t have to leer very long because she also got smooched for a millisecond by Maddy, and there are certainly worse things to happen to you on stage ;) … on the one hand, all the hype is kind of cool, but I think USA Today wouldn’t headline with the VMAs if it were Justin Timberlake Madonna had kissed…
