Don’t Trust Any1

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

What do Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Ashlee Simpson and Goldfrapp have in common? They don’t trust their fans. More precisely, they don’t trust their fans on the internet, or how else can it be explained that they did not offer full-length streams of their songs prior to release?

If You Love Me, Why’d You Let Me Go?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Head over to www.coldplay.com and download the first single of the upcoming album “Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends” called “Violet Hill” for free. You better hurry though because it’s only available for a week. If the single is any indication, it’s going to be a fantastic album - I’m looking forward to it!

The best bits in life are free

In attempt to be better (hello, belated New Year’s resolution), I’ve gone on a hunt for freeware programs. After some searching, I’m quite happy with the result: 98% of the programs I use now are officially free!*

Don’t be the Last.fm to know

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

I really like Last.fm, I think the idea is fantastic. I even have a profile but it hasn’t been active for a long time. The problem I have with it is that the scrobbling software forever crashes my Winamp and if it doesn’t do that, it doesn’t really scrobble. So I’ve had an on-again, off-again relationship with “the social music revolution”. But it might be time to spend a lot more time at Last.fm again because now they offer full length songs to listen to! I’m off to get to know not only the charts but lots of unknown artists and songs: I’m excited!

Anybody who uses a computer has had the problem: you have a multimedia file, but it’s the wrong format for your player. Or you want to extract audio from a ripped DVD file but don’t have the right program. Another scenario: you have a Quicktime movie you want to edit on a Windows PC. Without further ado: I think I might have found the solution!

Turntablism and Post-Bop

Friday, April 7th, 2006

These are music genres I never knew even existed… and there are more! Like Finger-Picked Guitar, Afro-Brazilian, Dream Pop, Honky Tonk, Appalachian Folk or Neo-Traditionalist Country. I found them at Download.com, upon which I have stumbled via Tonspion. They are both very good sources for legally downloading lots of mp3s from all sorts of artists, covering the genres above and a few more conventional ones like Indie Pop, R&B or House ;). I’m currently listening to my prey of over 80 songs, and so far I’m almost liking all of them. Btw, the mp3s are usually encoded at 192kb/s (=better quality) and are not restricted in any way. Happy downloading :)!
