For no particular reason (Wikipedia tells me Australia Day was on January 26th, already): three songs by Australian artists - Delta Goodrem, Gabriella Cilmi and good old Kylie Minogue (and I use “old” in the best possible way - that woman has been around for 20 years!)
It’s debatable whether it’s better to have an ohrwurm in a language you understand or not - if you don’t know what is sung, you can concentrate on the music but on the other hand, a song consists of the music AND the lyrics. That interesting controversy aside, here a few of my favorite songs that are not in English: discover Spanish, French, German, Gaelic, Hebrew, Arabic, Italian, Swedish, Japanese, Turkish and Hindi songs!
Or something a bit more clever ;). Anyway, Duffy is begging for Mercy, and Madcon are just “Beggin” - they are so desperate, they don’t even have time for proper spelling ;p. What they *do* have time for though is an extremely groovy song: I’ll bet you anything you start nodding your head to the beat in no time flat!
Ohrwurm time! If you can tell me why this song is called “Pumpkin soup”, you… well, are smarter than me ;). Point is though that this tune by Kate Nash is extremely catchy, and the bright colours of the video are a perfect match.
I’ve always liked Moloko (of “Sing It Back” and “The Time Is Now” fame), especially the voice of their singer called Roísín Murphy. Now that Moloko is no more, Murphy has gone on to make music as a solo artists and has released her second album called “Overpowered” a few months ago. Better late than never, I’ve come across it via the new single “You Know Me Better”:
This time it’s slightly more obscure (not the name, that may not be possible) but life is too short to restrict yourself to one kind of music ;). So listen to Firewater with “This is my life”.
Award for “Strangest Band Name Ever” goes without doubt to Trolle Siebenhaar (if that is a real name, I apologise but I seriously doubt any parent would be so cruel! On the other hand, there are people called Jethro Tull - Poppy Montgomery’s brother, I’m looking at you! But I digress…). Their song “Sweet Dogs” is just as good as the band name is weird - so before you twist your brain, it’s ohrwurm material ;)!
This upbeat song called “Worst Case Scenario” by the Hoosiers reminds me of an 80s classic whose name I can’t remember for the life of me - something with cats…? Does anybody know?
